Youth Psychology

Youth or emerging adulthood is defined between the ages of 19 to 29 years of age and encompasses significant psychological challenges and milestones.

  • Identity Exploration: Many young adults navigate the process of self-discovery and defining their identities, including aspects related to career, values, relationships, and personal beliefs.
  • Educational Transitions: This period often involves transitioning from high school to college or university or from higher education to the workforce. These transitions can bring academic pressures, career decisions, and adjustment to new environments.
  • Career Development: Young adults may experience challenges in establishing their careers, including finding meaningful employment, determining their professional goals, and gaining financial independence.
  • Relationships and Intimacy: This stage often involves exploring romantic relationships, forming long-term partnerships, or experiencing relationship difficulties. Establishing healthy boundaries, communication skills, and managing conflicts are important aspects of relationship development.
  • Mental Health Concerns: Young adulthood can be a vulnerable period for mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, and mood disorders. Increased stressors, life changes, and societal pressures can contribute to these challenges.
  • Financial Independence: Managing personal finances, budgeting, and making responsible financial decisions become important during this stage as young adults become more independent and take on financial responsibilities.

We provide a range of services to support your mental health and well-being. For example;

  • Individual Counseling:  To address specific concerns and challenges faced by young adults. At Centre Psychology we create a safe and confidential environment where individuals can openly discuss their thoughts, emotions, and personal experiences. Through evidence-based therapeutic techniques, we support young adults in developing coping strategies, improve self-esteem, manage stress, and enhance overall well-being.
  • Psychoeducation and Skill-Building: At Centre Psychology we support young adults in gaining knowledge about common mental health issues, symptoms, and available treatments. We teach practical skills and techniques to manage stress, regulate emotions, improve communication, build resilience, and make healthy lifestyle choices. This empowers young adults to develop essential life skills and make informed decisions.
  • Referrals and Collaboration: At centre psychology we collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as psychiatrists, social workers, schools, training institutions/universities and medical doctors, to ensure comprehensive care for young adults.  We can provide referrals to specialised services or recommend additional interventions when necessary.
  • Assessment and Diagnosis: At Centre Psychology we can provide assessments and diagnostic evaluations to understand the psychological, emotional, and cognitive functioning of individuals.
